Howard Bullock

Fire & Blood

Ser Howard Bullock was a knight and the younger son of the commander of Dragonstone’s castle garrison. His surviving account is brief, but it records a flight from Dragonstone with Coryanne Wylde, a marriage left behind, and a death far from Westeros.

Background

Bullock’s family connection to the garrison is the clearest detail of his early life. The record identifies him as the commander’s younger son, but gives no further account of his upbringing or service. By 50 AC, he was a married man.

Flight from Dragonstone

On the fifteenth day of the sixth moon of 50 AC, Bullock left Dragonstone under cover of night with Coryanne Wylde. He left his wife behind, taking most of her jewelry. A fishing boat carried the pair to Driftmark, where they boarded a ship bound for Pentos.

Their departure came after Coryanne had been sent to Dragonstone among the women chosen for Queen Alysanne Targaryen’s household. The record gives no account of Bullock’s role there beyond identifying him as a young knight connected to the garrison. His escape with Coryanne became part of the story surrounding her, though the more elaborate tales associated with her book are treated as uncertain rather than reliable history.

Exile and death

From Pentos, Bullock and Coryanne travelled to the Disputed Lands. There, Bullock joined the Free Company. He died in Myr three years after leaving Dragonstone, not in battle but after falling from his horse following a night of drinking.

Coryanne continued on alone and penniless, while Bullock’s recorded life ended abroad. The surviving account thus follows him from a clandestine departure to mercenary service and an accidental death, without establishing what became of his wife or explaining the circumstances that led him to leave her.
